And we’re off!

The New Year has begun at Mission Emanuel with several groups already hitting the ground in the DR to build and bless the people there. One area that we have been gently and slowly going in to is, Quita Sueño. This community is across the river from Cielo where we usually work. In many ways this community looks a lot like Cielo did, before Mission Emanuel began working there 20 years ago. This is why we are so excited that the Lord has led us there. The people of the Dominican Republic translate “Quita Sueño” as: “The place where dreams go to die.” And if you venture into this community, you can feel that oppression over the people who are in desperate need of the light and hope of Jesus Christ. We hope to bring change through His love in us as we serve there.

When we first visited Quita Sueño, we asked the people what their greatest need was; there was a resounding, “Clean water!” Now we have two local home distributors that supply them with daily pure water from our water plant in Cielo. That plant is called: Provisión del Cielo – “Agua para la Vida” (…Provision from heaven – “water for life”). Clean water serves a critical physical need. With that, we know the Love of Christ will transform that community the way it has done in Cielo, by giving them abundant “life”!

The Mission Emanuel team that came right after Christmas was a group from Rockford, Illinois, North Carolina and Florida. After working hard on several building projects in Cielo, they took part of a day and visited Quita Sueño. The children and adults there were thrilled to see us and became a lively audience for the Vacation Bible School that was led by Rockford Christian School!

As we continue our New Year, please keep the Mission Emanuel teams and us in your prayers. May God’s “provision from heaven” continue to sustain us. Thank you!
