Zika Prevention

The following post is from Carlos Caceres, one of our staff managers in the DR and tells of recent community work in dealing with the potential outbreak of the Zika virus. Stay up to date on our ongoing fight to prevent the disease.

Last Wednesday was a big day, where Mission Emanuel medical clinic team alongside with The Department of Health coordinate the prevention operation against Zika virus. A group of 32 people that included Mission Emanuel staff, volunteers, volunteers from Cielo church and also from Cielo community went out to the community and delivered Clorox, repellents, and mosquito nets.

It was a good opportunity for our staff and the volunteers to spend sometime chatting with people from the community and share with them how to avoid Zika virus from spreading in our community. Thank God we don’t have any registered cases of Zika in Cielo or in the Bayona neighborhoods.

Yamilca from the Department of Health said: “Mission Emanuel is a blessing for Cielo community and for us. If we could find a ministry like Mission Emanuel in the others communities, we could become a better country.”

It is also important to know that the Dominican Department of Public Health fumigated the entire area to rid the community of mosquitos. See pictures below.
