An Update from our Dominican Staff – May 14, 2020

To keep you updated on the status of COVID-19 in Santo Domingo, as well as Mission Emanuel’s community outreach programs, our staff in the Dominican Republic compiled the following video message for you. You’ll recognize several familiar voices and faces! At the end, you’ll also find a message from one of our founders, Javier de la Cruz. It is our hope that during this time of separation from many, these messages will help you remain connected with the Mission Emanuel family and ministry. Please click the image below to watch the video.
Here is some updated information on the spread of COVID-19 in Dominican Republic:

The state of emergency put in place by the Dominican government has been extended until June 11th, and only businesses providing medications, groceries, and medical care are able to stay open; all gatherings are prohibited.

As testing capacity has increased in the DR, the data suggests that the mortality rate due to COVID-19 in the DR has declined (3.7% as of May 10th).
Food being prepared for distribution to 35 families in the communities of Cielo and Nazaret.
Given the ongoing state of emergency in the country and travel restrictions, we are unable to host short-term missionaries in June.  While we are saddened not to have these teams on the ground with us, we know this is the safest option for the community and our participants right now.  At this time, we are waiting to make decisions on potential trips in later months.

In our previous updates, we shared the financial impact of COVID-19 related trip cancellations on our organization and ministry, and the financial deficit we are facing as a result. As of today, we have raised $270,473 (47% of our need)! Thank you for your generosity; our continued community outreach is enabled by your support. Our ministry’s financial needs, as well as the needs of those we support in Cielo and Nazaret remain significant; we prayerfully trust that the Lord will provide for those needs this year.  If you’d like to consider a gift at this time, please see the information below on how to give.

We continue to pray for all of you during this time and ask that the Lord bless you and your families in this season.

Blessings,

Jim Sweeney
