Heath news: “Chikungunya”
Chikungunya is a difficult word to say and an even worse viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes.
Victims have great joint pain, headaches, and fevers.
Chikungunya has hit the Dominican Republic like a hurricane leaving many people sick and in pain. Almost half of our friends in Cielo have had it.
When many of our staff and our friends were infected, Mission Emanuel said “ENOUGH!!”
On July 20th, Mission Emanuel, created the SWAT team (Servants With Agape Touch). The Dayne Williams family was asked to bring 250 cans of mosquito repellant. The team was made up of Stephanie, Garrett, and Lindsey Williams, Joe Nugent and Kennedy Wilson. Our own medical team, led by Dr. Sara, put together 300 mosquito nets (for children, pregnant moms, and the elderly) and brochures on how to prevent and treat this disease.
“SWAT Team”
Just 6 days after the call to arms had been sounded, we put together a crew of over 40 people. After training, we cleaned all of the garbage and tires out of Cielo, placed a dozen bright yellow garbage cans in the community, and visited every home. We gave aide and prayer where it was needed while also handing out repellant and mosquito nets.
Just one month later results were evaluated and found that we had decreased the disease by over 70%!

God’s People Responded!
His children were cured and cared for!
Someone once said that 80% of success is just “showing up!”

When God is calling and we show up, He uses us to spread his love and healing hand.
In Luke 10, Jesus said to them as you enter the village, “Heal the sick and announce that the Kingdom of God is here!”

Thanks for continuing to keep Mission Emanuel on the front line of healing and spreading God’s word.
